The role partners with the Japan Leadership Team, Marketplace Unit (MPU) leaders, Planning, Marketing, and Geography Finance teams to shape financial plans, manage business performance, and support strategic decision-making.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Nike is looking for a Finance Director to lead the Business Planning function within the Japan Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team. This leader will shape the long-term financial direction of Nike Japan while driving in-year business performance. The successful candidate can translate complex financial, consumer, and marketplace information into clear insights and recommendations that influence senior leaders.

The candidate brings strategic thinking, strong financial judgment, and demonstrated experience leading teams through ambiguity and change. This individual builds trusted relationships across functions and levels, communicates complex concepts with clarity, and balances attention to detail with a broader commercial perspective. The role requires a proactive leader who can prioritize competing demands, challenge assumptions constructively, and create an inclusive environment where people can contribute and grow.

  • 8 to 10 years of experience in corporate finance, strategic planning, accounting, budgeting, or a related discipline within a large, complex, matrixed organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher required in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a combination of relevant education, experience, and training.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including building high-performing teams, developing talent, and leading through ambiguity and change.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to turn large data sets and complex concepts into executive-ready recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, combined with sound judgment and the ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.
  • Fluent verbal and written English communication skills are required. Japanese language proficiency is preferred.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

You will lead Japan’s Business Planning team and provide strategic financial leadership across the Territory. You will set priorities, strengthen planning and performance-management processes, and turn financial and business insights into recommendations that help senior leaders make decisions and deliver sustainable, profitable growth.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team comprising three MPU Finance Leads and one Financial Analyst, establishing clear priorities, decision rights, accountability, and development opportunities.
  • Lead the development of Japan’s Long-Range Financial Plan and translate strategic financial models into actionable operating plans and budgets.
  • Own the analysis of monthly and quarterly results and forecasts, identifying key performance drivers, risks, and opportunities across Japan’s Profit and Loss (P&L) portfolio.
  • Continuously improve the financial models, reporting processes, and Monthly Management Pack used to provide senior leaders with accurate, timely, and actionable insights.
  • Partner with Geography Finance, Territory Planning, and business leaders to integrate consumer, marketplace, seasonal, and financial plans.
  • Represent Japan Finance in cross-functional Integrated Business Planning (IBP) forums and present financial results, implications, and recommendations to the General Manager (GM), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and other senior leaders.
  • Lead analyses that inform Nike-critical decisions, including responses to changing consumer, marketplace, macroeconomic, and business conditions, while simplifying processes and improving efficiency without compromising quality.
