Expert Engineer - Connected Product Global Technology

As an Expert Software Engineer, you will be part of the Connected Product Global Technology Incubator team. Focused on building and running prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and initial pilots of new hardware and software technologies; to enable accelerated implementations for the Connected Product Transformational Initiative.

In this role, you will be a critical influencer providing thought-leadership on technical directions and developing new technologies. All the while, providing mentorship to other developers, through intentional and daily interactions with the team. Strong communication, ability to handle up and down, solve complex problems, and being a supportive leader and team player is key.

While investigating new technologies you will collaborate with domain engineering and enterprise platform teams. Ability to learn and fail quickly is paramount in building experience and understanding when new technologies are most valuable and where there is still maturity needed. Technical and functional demos and stakeholder feedback will be frequent, in order to understand immediate needs and changes.

Successful candidates will exhibit the following qualities:
  • Deep foundational knowledge of software engineering practices, particularly on distributed systems and cloud native architectures.
  • Experience with API development for performance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, to a team or executive level.
  • Emotional intelligence is essential in order to bring diverse groups together to solve common goals.
  • Pragmatic and customer / value focused in solutions rooted in continuous delivery.
  • Highly focused on delivery, ability to provide technical direction and be a contributing member of the team.
  • Ability to be strategic, while also going deep into complex technical problems.


WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE:
  • Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Deep industry experience in cloud engineering problems around clustering, service design, scalability, resiliency, block and object stores, and distributed backend systems.
  • 5+ years in a lead engineering role responsible for architecture decisions and direct technical leadership over engineering teams focused on delivering enterprise scale systems.
  • 8+ years in a systems software development role using common system like Java, Python, and/or JavaScript.
  • Experienced knowledge of modern functional and/or multi-paradigm languages dealing with concurrency and locking a plus.
  • 3+ years professional experience with AWS or other major cloud provider.
  • Experience with RFID, NFC, IoT, and mobile device development plus.
