We are seeking a technically proficient, hands-on and experienced Lead Application Engineer to join the Product Development team. In this role, you will be maintaining existing foundational solutions as well as modernize them that will power Product Creation capabilities to continuously deliver Nike product.

We are looking for exceptional technical skills, the instinct to automate everything, a deep understanding of integration patterns, and a focus on providing scalable and sustainable solutions. We need a self-starter with the desire to grow, bringing an acute attention to detail and a proven record of creating excellent customer and partner relationships.

We practice continuous delivery and deploy to production frequently every day. We own and support the systems we develop, we have a rotating on call schedule if issues happen during off-hours.
We obsess over quality and ensure good tests are written as part of every PR.

As the lead engineer, you'll be expected to:
  • Provide technical leadership and knowledge to your teammates
  • Review your peer's design, code, provide constructive feedback and engage in good technical discussions
  • Work with your product partners to develop technical solutions for features
  • Partner to create and execute divestiture and modernization strategy and execution
  • Participate in technical planning, grooming and estimation
  • Representing your team in roadmap planning, visioning, and strategy sessions
  • Practice DevOps, write good tests and deploy continuously to prod with monitoring
  • Partner with other engineering teams to build scalable systems adhering to Best Practices and minimizing Tech Debt.
  • Partner closely with Technical/Engineering Director and Product Owner to provide feedback on skill sets, training opportunities and gaps of the team members
  • Drive new ideas and partner closely with Product Creation Delivery management team to identify / resolve operational bottlenecks and methodology gaps
  • Lead a team of engineers and be responsible for Onshore and Offshore collaboration


WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE
  • You've led a team of engineers with varying skill levels for at least 2 years

  • You've developed and deployed microservices to the cloud

  • You have deep understanding of APIs

  • You have experience using Docker and Kuberneters framework

  • You have 3 years experience writing backend services in a JVM language, preferably Java, Informatica

  • You have 3 years experience with SQL data mining and data conversions

  • You have 2 years experience working in an Agile team including Scrum, Kanban or XP

  • You have 1 year experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipelines

  • You've coached and mentored junior developers on your team

  • You can deploy applications to AWS

  • You can write unit and integration tests

  • You love to learn new technologies and bring ideas to the team

  • You value collaboration with your team, product owners and architects

  • You understand scalable, highly available, and consistent distributed systems

  • You have worked in a scrum team before and value agile development

  • You have strong communication skills and can explain solutions to technical and non-technical audience

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (or other relevant subject) or relevant professional experience
