WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We are looking for an experienced Competition Legal Counsel to join our EMEA Legal team. As a Competition Legal Counsel, you will be a member of our Go-To-Market and Territories group. This position is based at Nike's EMEA headquarters in Hilversum, The Netherlands and will report into our Lead Competition Counsel EMEA. WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON? In this role you will help us manage critical commercial relationships with retailers (physical, digital and omnichannel), and you will leverage your competition law experience to help us engage the marketplace in compliance with antitrust / competition laws in EMEA. Your work will cover an extensive range of matters including, but not limited to:
Counseling business leaders on antitrust/competition legal matters that may impact or regulate company commercial operations
Preparing and delivering antitrust/competition law training programs to relevant employees and key business leaders, to drive compliance, manage risk, and unlock opportunities for the business
Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and providing advice with regard to various company transactions, including general commercial contracts supporting the sales and distribution of our products in traditional retail channels, as well as digital retail and digital platforms
Providing practical legal advice for a variety of company strategic initiatives, including commercial wholesale supply arrangements, digital retail platforms, social media, and distribution across direct-to-consumer and wholesale channels
Supporting cross-functional legal and business teams involved in the marketing, sale, licensing, and distribution of products via traditional and new digital retail business models
Coordinating with our government affairs team to keep track of regulatory developments in antitrust/competition law and policy in EMEA
Anticipating internal and external legal issues and recommending process or service improvements to our business
Representing Nike in response to requests or investigations by competition authorities
Retaining and managing outside legal counsel to ensure high-value, cost-effective representation
Cultivating a diverse and inclusive corporate culture
WHAT YOU BRING TO NIKE?
Law Degree from a reputable university; LLM (preferably in EU law) from a reputable European university.
Minimum of 8 years' experience in the practice of law, whether in a law firm with a leading competition law practice, a Fortune 500 company legal department, government antitrust agency, or any combination thereof.
Experience in either a corporate legal department or government antitrust agency is strongly preferred.
Subject matter expertise and experience in EU/national competition law (including competition law compliance programs, distribution systems, market investigations) and substantial experience in the practice of general business law, with a focus on anti-trust, sales, distribution, franchising and creditor legal issues as well as information technology and intellectual property transactions.
Preferably, admission to the Bar of one of the jurisdictions of the European Union.
Proficiency with negotiating, drafting and closing complex commercial transactions.
Strong bias for action and strategic thinking.
Excellent collaboration and presentation skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with solid business acumen.
Premium stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Business fluency in English; written and oral. Proficient working knowledge of another primary European language strongly preferred.
