We are a growing team with a large impact. Together, we are building a consistent data capture instrumentation process that allows Nike to improve its services and experiences based on insights motivated by data. We are looking for lead front end engineering talent like you to contribute to this journey.

As a Software Engineer for Data Capture focusing on privacy, you will contribute to the instrumentation ecosystem being developed to drive analytical insights. Knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript is a must. Experience instrumenting data for analytics and/or metrics is a big plus.

Utilizing your experiences in software engineering, you will play a key contributor role in all phases of the software development lifecycle. You will be a team member on an Agile team, building libraries and services used by various teams throughout Nike. You'll collaborate with other software engineers, architects, and product owners to create solid solutions that support Nike's dynamic growth in the area of data. Using test driven practices to write solid application code is the essence of this position. We expect you to have strong opinions, loosely held.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to front end and back end systems to ensure Nike is collecting and honoring user permissions and privacy from capture/ingestion to storage
  • Partnering with a verity of engineering teams including platform, privacy and experience teams
  • Consuming APIs and partner with development teams to ensure our use cases and captured
  • Assist in the technical design and solutions for data capture related to internal privacy initiatives


  • 4+ years professional engineering experience primarily focused on Java
  • Experience with data anonymization, classification and auditing data access
  • Degree in computer science or related field
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks such as React
  • Understanding of technical privacy issues such as cookie management and encryption
  • Experience consuming API's using Java or similar object-oriented programming language
  • Passion for consumer privacy and ability to communication across disciplines (engineering, legal, privacy)
  • Experience with AWS, EC2 and streaming preferred
  • Ability to learn new technologies, asses privacy exposure and recommend mitigation
  • Experience with streaming and big data a plus
  • Demonstrable test-driven coding skills using tools like Jest and Mocha
  • Advanced knowledge of the DOM
  • Experience using Git for version control
  • Experience working in an Agile team including Scrum, Kanban, Jira etc.
