The Bowerman Footwear Lab (BFL) is a one-stop shop for Creation, Collaboration, and Education for the greater Nike Footwear community. They have all the machines to produce one-of-a-kind footwear in Oregon, facilities dedicated to hosting collaborative working sessions, and staff devoted to generating best in industry training courses around footwear product creation. The BFL team is a vital component in crafting the future of Nike Footwear. And the BFL Maintenance team plays an essential role by ensuring that all of the footwear production equipment are functioning to provide world class samples.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Rapid prototyping of footwear concepts is crucial to product creation and decision-making at Nike. Our team is a vital component of crafting the future of Footwear. Reporting to the BFL Maintenance Senior Supervisor, you will work with various project and business teams to ensure equipment and operations are consistently running with minimal impacted downtime to enable a sustainable, innovative and collaborative business environment.
These roles support a larger BFL product creation team and need to be strong team players. Technicians are expected to speak up if something doesn’t seem correct and offer their opinions to help create solutions. Also, working with production specialists and managers to help problem solve equipment issues that may arise and ensuring that collaboration is a core value when coming up with solutions. Education is a large part of what we do in the BFL so people that are comfortable assisting in hands-on training to production technicians or other team mates that may want to learn from you.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
The main function of this team is to enable the creation of high-quality footwear samples by reacting to equipment maintenance issues or by helping to establish preventative maintenance strategies. The main task include:
- Advocating for a safe work environment, ensures work is completed using appropriate safety guidelines
- Identifying, diagnosing, and repairing machinery as needed in a timely manner
- Executing preventative maintenance plan for PCC machinery
- Ensuring minimal facility disruptions
- Utilizing the maintenance request system
- Documenting all work as required
- Ordering parts, tools, materials and supplies as needed
- Working with vendors as necessary
- Partnering with project teams to identify maintenance needs for new incoming equipment and supporting installations
- Decommissioning obsolete machines as required
- Assist with machine moves, relocations
- Assist with facility projects and machine modifications
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The BFL Lead Maintenance Technician reports to the BFL Maintenance Senior Supervisor within the Facilities and Maintenance Team. They will be supporting the various departments within the BFL, including the Mold and Tooling Center, Molded Component Center, Rapid Additive Manufacturing, Materials Operations, Footwear Prototyping and Footwear Assembly. You will also connect with other Maintenance Departments through out Nike.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5 years of experience working in product manufacturing; ideally working specifically in footwear manufacturing or similar soft goods, or 2 years experience working as a maintenance tech
- 2 year technical degree in manufacturing, maintenance or equivalent field preferred; additional 1 year work experience in related field in lieu of degree
- Experience sewing with industrial sewing machines strongly preferred. Experience working with chemical adhesives, digital printers, embroidery machines, lasers, or digital cutting machines also encouraged.
- Experience working around industrial equipment with an emphasis on safety and productivity.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize competing duties.
- Results driven with a strong work ethic.
- Experience in software such as Airtable, Miro, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to drive collaboration and communication within a complex group.
- An open minded and enthusiastic attitude.
