The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,100.00 in our lowest geographic market to $313,900.00 in our highest geographic market. Actual salary will vary based on a candidate's location, qualifications, skills and experience.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a seasoned Engineering leader who can lead and grow teams of machine learning engineers, data scientists, and software architects to develop, implement and optimize Gen AI solutions to transform the customer service experience. You will lead the Gen AI strategy for customer support, overseeing entire lifecycle of AI agents and tools, from ideation, development to deployment and ongoing performance improvement. You will foster partnerships with best of breed open-source communities, commercial vendors, and universities. Above all, your work will accelerate Nike's core mission of serving Athletes*.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

  • Inspire by building POCs and showing the art of the possible in AI

  • Develop software architecture and platform strategy for Gen AI applications

  • Recruit, hire, and mentor exceptional data scientists and machine learning engineers, software engineers

  • Work with product management, development/engineering, platform development, architecture, operations, and other internal stakeholders to define requirements, guide product and architectural vision, and prioritize efforts. Help translate customer requirements into stories to support agile development and accurate roadmaps.

  • Support investigation of new software packages/vendors, APIs, and algorithms to deliver quality analytics and Gen AI systems at scale.

  • Ensure rigorous engineering processes.

  • Collaborate with a cross functional agile team of software engineers, data engineers, ML experts, Gen AI experts and others to build new product features.

  • Help drive optimization, testing, and tooling to improve data quality

  • Iterate quickly on product quality through continuous A/B testing

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will be directly managing a team of software engineers/ML engineers/data scientists. You will be partnering cross-functionally with product management, program, domain engineering, data, platform engineering, infrastructure, security teams to build Gen AI solution at scale and technical backlog for your development teams.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field. Masters or Ph.D. preferred. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience; 4+ years of people management experience

  • Must have launched an AI application at global scale

  • Deep technical understanding of the latest generative AI applications like large language models (LLMs), large multimodal models (LMMs), image/video generation.

  • Proven success implementing and scaling Gen AI systems

  • Expertise in conversational AI systems with experience with relevant technologies like RAG, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Engineering leader who can aggressively recruit top talent and build teams that deliver results.

  • Rock solid engineer and data scientist with demonstrated experience in in Machine Learning, AI or distributed systems development.

  • Background in Machine Learning or a related field. Significant experience in machine learning algorithms, understanding natural language or unstructured data. Deep learning experience is a plus.

  • You have experience implementing machine learning systems at scale in Java, Scala, Python or similar

  • You have a strong mathematical background in statistics and machine learning

  • You care about agile software processes, data-driven development, reliability, and responsible experimentation

  • You preferably have machine learning publications, project code, or work on open source to share with us

  • Excellent communications skills and ability to coordinate internally and externally
