Who we are looking for
We’re looking for a Director of Color Design to combine their experience, problem solving abilities, and creativity to help build the future of Nike ACG Apparel, Footwear and Accessories! The ideal candidate needs to elevate the Nike ACG product experience with a focus on both the art & science of Color. In this role, you will drive an emotional connection to footwear, apparel & accessories through the use of narrative and storytelling.
In this role you will be accountable to build and define the future look of ACG through color, and you will be leading the Color Design team to implement and deliver a product color strategy that combines Nike innovation and athlete insights into a cohesive Color vision across the entire ACG consumer journey, while partnering with Materials and Graphics team.
What you will work on
If this is you, you will collaboratively set Color direction with ACG Creative Director and product design leaders, to define the seasonal and evergreen color vision and execution.
A given day can consist of setting the tone for the Color vision for the future of ACG, leading cross functional brainstorming sessions, inspiration travel, gathering athlete insights, or presenting your ideas to ACG and Nike leadership.
Who you will work with
You will report to the Color, Materials and Graphic Senior Design Director who leads the overall vision ACG business across Apparel, Footwear and Accessories. You will work with Product Management, Athletes, Graphic and Materials Design Leaders, Apparel Footwear and Accessories Design, Product Development, Innovation, Insights, Merchandising, Manufacturing, Marketplace, Brand, Operations and Sustainability teams as your key partners.
What you will bring
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Design or related field or combination of relevant education, experience, and training
- 10 years' prior design work experience
- 2 years minimum in a management or leadership role (5 years preferred)
- Ability to mentor staff, build opportunities for staff development, make hiring decisions, and drive performance management, recognition and rewards.
- Ability to build seasonal concepts, explore new color innovations and technologies and ideas, as well as short- and long-term vision.
- Ability to plan and execute the product color details and review all samples, troubleshoot for achievability issues and clearly communicate changes in order to ensure timely completion of each project
- Strong knowledge of fashion, design, design and youth culture, current and past.
- Presentation/Communication style: Clear, Concise, and Thoughtful (strong verbal and written skills). Ability to present new insights or seasonal concepts to small and large groups, including presenting to executive leaders, and external partners or customers
- Passion for storytelling with the ability to translate narratives onto physical product
- Love of the outdoors, curiosity for athlete insight and connection to outdoor style trends
- Ability to conduct in-depth research on athlete insights in order to drive innovative design solutions
- Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Keynote on a Mac Platform
- A positive mentality with proven ability to flex and adapt to changing business needs while maintaining creative quality.
