WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

In this role, you will collaborate with Advanced Innovation teammates and broader AIC teams to develop innovative products using digital/additive tools and systems. Nike's Advanced Innovation Collective (AIC) researches and develops the world's most innovative apparel and footwear product, seeking to disrupt the industry by always focusing on the athlete and making them better.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Concept Engineer II should be capable of working independently to produce performance-focused footwear prototypes using parametric tools and additive fabrication systems.  The ideal candidate should possess a strong aesthetic sensibility, keen attention to detail, a growth mindset, and should excel at translating abstract concepts into fully realized form.

Your portfolio will clearly demonstrate your experience working on key concepts or product exploration with complex design, fabrication, and material requirements (footwear construction knowledge is helpful). Extensive experience with 3D printing and thermoplastic materials is required. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and contribute to the creation of best-in-class products.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Architecture, Product Design, Computer Science (visual design/imaging focus), or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, and training.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience using CAD and computational design tools in product design or related fields (i.e. Rhino/Grasshopper, Maya, Houdini).

  • A strong design portfolio that demonstrates versatility in creating both physical and digital designs

  • Experience with light software programming/scripting (node-based visual programming systems and/or Python preferred).

  • Extensive experience with 3D FFF printing, and file prep (i.e. slicing, GCode generation) required.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

As the Concept Engineer II within Nike Advanced Innovation, you will be responsible for leveraging existing parametric algorithms to produce swatches, components, footwear uppers, and footwear cushioning to help bring exciting new product opportunities to life. You will support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables meet the highest quality standards. Additionally, you will need to adapt to the rapidly evolving landscape of digital design technology, maintaining a position at the cutting edge of advanced concept creation.

  • The position necessitates daily use of Rhino/Grasshopper, with the ability to leverage and revise algorithms independently to fulfill project requirements.

  • You are expected to participate in project-related meetings, work sessions, and design sprints as required, thinking critically and collaborating creatively to help solve complex problems.

  • As a key technical resource for our additive capabilities, you will also train and mentor others on printers and gantry systems.

  • In this role, meticulous attention to detail is necessary as you will document process settings/scenarios, qualitative and quantitative print results.

  • You will also regularly communicate with cross-disciplinary product teams of footwear designers, developers, and engineers, so strong interpersonal and communication skills are key to succeeding in this role.

We offer a number of accommodations to complete our interview process including screen readers, sign language interpreters, accessible and single location for in-person interviews, closed captioning, and other reasonable modifications as needed. If you discover, as you navigate our application process, that you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please complete the Candidate Accommodation Request Form.
