WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Converse is looking for a Materials Designer II with a strong understanding of fashion industry trends, as well as material construction, print and pattern, and color—particularly within footwear. Through ongoing research and deep consumer connection, this individual balances both the art and science of material design and trend forecasting to identify patterns that inform global direction.

In this role, the designer focuses on crafting distinctive, highly desirable material and graphic expressions and integrating them into footwear for the local market and beyond. A keen eye for detail and a drive to produce premium expressions on existing silhouettes are essential. This role offers a unique opportunity to build a localized narrative and deliver a comprehensive style vision that resonates with streetwear and lifestyle consumers in Greater China (GC) and beyond.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON:

You will work closely with cross-functional partners to understand consumer needs and create compelling product narratives rooted in market trends and local cultural insights. You will shape a vision for footwear collections by telling unique, locally relevant stories that resonate with consumers in Greater China (GC) and beyond.

You will create world-class product expressions through Material and Graphics Design in collaboration with Footwear, Color, Product Management, and Development teams. Most importantly, you will craft unique, highly sought-after products that connect with consumers on a deeper level.

Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting consumer and trend research, selecting and applying materials and graphics, managing projects, and communicating design intent through presentations and mood boards. You will also contribute to prototyping and exploration, collaborate with cross-functional teams, participate in design reviews, and create product CADs and tech packs.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:

You will report to the Senior Manager, Materials & Graphics Design, Global within the Trend & Expressions Global Team. While your functional manager is based in Boston, you will work closely on a daily basis with Greater China (GC) geography partners across Footwear, Color, Product Management, and Material Development.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Bachelor’s, Associate’s, or advanced degree (BA/BFA/MA/MFA) in product design, CMF design, or a related field preferred

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in materials, footwear, or fashion design

  • Passion for trend and material research, with the ability to gather cultural and market insights and interpret consumer behavior with a discerning eye

  • Clear and compelling communicator, both verbally and visually, in cross-functional settings

  • Proven ability to develop concepts, iterate, and collaborate with multidisciplinary product and creative teams

  • Strong ability to apply seasonal expressions to existing footwear silhouettes through trend-right use of materials, graphics, and color; able to communicate design intent through both mood boards and CADs

  • Ability to create industry-leading material and graphics mood boards that integrate consumer insights through strong storytelling and emotional resonance

  • Advanced design skills with the ability to create original material, print, and pattern designs aligned with Converse’s brand ethos

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficient in Mac-based design tools with strong digital design capabilities

  • Experience with 3D and AI design tools is a plus, but not required

  • Ability to work across multiple time zones, both in person and virtually

  • Willingness to travel locally and globally
