Lead, Media Relations, Jordan Brand

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You’ll be part of the Jordan Brand Communications team, working across geographies and our sport offenses, partnering closely with Brand Marketing, Sports Marketing, Finance, Legal, H.R., Design and Product teams, as well as key partners across Nike, Inc. The success of this role will depend on your ability to look across Jordan Brand to cultivate and create the best stories, strategies, and media plans for Jordan Brand.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a Media Relations Lead to join our team in New York City, NY.
A successful candidate in this role will help cultivating collaboration across the team and fostering effective partnerships internally and externally with media outlets, is a must. You will help develop relationships at the heart of sport, culture, style, music and art. You will be hyper-connected to the communities and cultures that matters most to Jordan Brand. You harness the power of storytelling to drive deeper conversations to create an emotional connection with our consumer. You will have a global mentality, strong strategic instincts, exceptional relationship skills, and be able to handle some ambiguity to work across the matrix. You are knowledgeable with new media platforms (broadcast and online), social media, content creators, influencers and have an interest in building those relationships. Your connection to basketball culture and the Black Community is authentic, and part of how you experience the world as a global citizen.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Journalism, PR, English, Humanities, Sociology, Psychology, Communications or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience or training
6+ years professional experience in high profile corporate, agency, and/or public relations roles supporting global brands with a strong preference for an emphasis on culture and sport
Culturally curious and hyper connected – allows you to constantly develop new media relationships and seek new storytelling opportunities
Ability to be a tastemaker and have a natural aptitude to consume global news that spans global events, contemporary and street art, youth culture, music, technology, fashion, sport and more
Experience in crisis management and being able to deftly work with internal and external constituents to bring resolution is key
Ability to work with highly confidential information
Proficient with messaging and materials – particularly adept at writing, flexible in various formats
Experience and understanding in capturing KPI’s and tracking coverage around important campaigns, initiatives, product launches and/or tentpole events
Background and experience working in the footwear and apparel industry is beneficial but not essential
Strong awareness and connection to sneaker and/or basketball culture
Deep knowledge and awareness of the cultural calendar across North America, with an understanding of key events and moments
Proficiency in all media platforms is required. Media is inclusive of print, online, broadcast and social
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
You will support and serve as a key member to the Jordan Brand media relations team, working out of New York City, the No. 1 media market in the world. You will report to the Director of Communications. Key responsibilities include:
Serve as a key contributor to the storytelling around Jordan Brand’s new Sport Offense formation, inclusive of basketball, football, baseball, streetwear, energy, global football, golf and more
Support in protecting the corporate reputation of Jordan Brand by working through issues discreetly, creatively and effectively by collaborating across relevant teams and functions, internally and externally
Seamlessly become an embedded function of project teams across key business priorities, workstreams, and consumer-facing concepts
Assist in expanding Jordan Brand’s connectivity and influence through performance and lifestyle narratives
Serve as integral teammate in approaching storytelling around Jordan Brand with a fresh perspective and leveraging emerging platforms to start new conversations that matter most for the future growth of the brand
Help drive a global narrative for Jordan Brand from one of our most important media capitals
Effectively work with Jordan Brand’s external PR agency to track media coverage, build coverage tracking reports and disseminate weekly reports to key internal stakeholders
Assist in the creation of talking points and briefing docs to be able to prepare Jordan Brand executives for interview opportunities
Manage product ordering and seeding, aligning with the seasonal priorities
Ability to travel, as needed, to select tentpole events, brand initiatives and additional opportunities to manage interview opportunities and host media members
