Lead Software Engineer (Site Reliability Engineering)

Duty & Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of SREs, guiding them in best practices for service observability, reliability, and automated operations.
- Design and implement comprehensive observability solutions to monitor system health, performance, and security.
- Lead incident response efforts during outages or failures, ensuring quick resolution while minimizing impact on users.
- Drive the development and implementation of automation scripts and tools to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
- Continuously improve processes for system observability, reliability, and incident management, incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in SRE, observability, and automated operations, applying them to enhance our systems.
Key Competencies:
- Strong expertise in service monitoring and logging (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
- Experience with incident management systems (PagerDuty) and chaos engineering principles.
- Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to mentor junior team members and manage project timelines effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for building reliable and scalable systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on site reliability, observability, and DevOps.
As the Lead Software Engineer within Nike's SRE team, you will lead efforts focused on service/system observability and reliability. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our systems are highly observable, resilient, and capable of handling increased loads efficiently. Your role will involve driving automation for operations, managing incident response, and continuously improving system performance.
