WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

As a Lead, Product Risk Engineer, NikeSKIMS, this role supports Global Development & Materials to ensure NikeSKIMS materials and product meet or exceed customer, consumer, and Nike requirements through the application of prevention-based quality engineering processes and tools. Utilizing a risk assessment framework, the Lead Engineer delivers formal, quantitative feedback to both internal and external organizations in order to influence business decisions.

This role reports into the Senior Manager, Product Risk Engineering.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This role uses fundamental engineering skills and knowledge of engineering tools to enable data-driven decision making and draws on an understanding of manufacturing and product creation environments, including staying abreast of innovation and advancements related to manufacturing.

The candidate needs to have a strategic mindset, creative problem solving, and an ability to anticipate business needs and risks during the development process. Our ideal candidate can communicate effectively in varied settings and can influence the team when needed, while demonstrating credibility and reliability. They are an active participant in cross functional discussions, leading the team with technical recommendations that will enhance and inspire athlete performance.

In addition, a candidate should be able to embrace change, be accountable to decisions and actions, actively seek feedback to grow and develop, value and respect the opinions of their teammates and partners, and embrace the diversity of people, ideas, and cultures. Within Product Risk Engineering, this role serves as a technical resource and able to mentor other Engineers.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, apparel design, textile science, or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.
  • Minimum of 6 years relevant work experience in the apparel industry, including the material and apparel development process from inception through production including manufacturing and quality
  • Strong problem solving, project management, organization, and communication skills
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to act as a technical resource, mentor others and lead initiatives through high energy and positive influence
  • Ability to effectively conduct presentations to small and large audiences
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities at once
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs, experience with Airtable a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international)

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

As a Lead, Product Risk Engineer – NikeSKIMS, you will work directly with Design, Product Management, Technical Design, and Materials/Product Development to identify and mitigate material and product risks. Throughout the development process, you will work through test plans, validations, and standards development to ensure the materials and product meet customer, consumer, and NikeSKIMS expectations. Ahead of production, you will engage with various Supply Chain partners to transition all work and ensure developments are ready for bulk production. Additional work includes:

  • Driving best practices and ensuring governance to Nike’s risk assessment process, documenting exceptions and escalations when needed
  • Identify material and product risk and execute against risk mitigation plans
  • Execute validation activities across materials and product manufacturing scalability
  • Communicate risk and manage mitigation activities with cross-functional partners within IDP and Supply Chain
  • Report seasonal risk status to stakeholders and multiple levels of leadership
  • Drive long-term strategic initiatives to support the PRE or GD&M organizations
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in material and product standards development
  • Drive corrective and preventative actions for Nike-caused material and product issues
