WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

Nike Platform Engine (NPE) provides solutions to standardize the way that Nike engineering teams deploy software to the cloud.

You'll work closely with other Platform Engineers to deliver technical design and solutions, contributing to the future success of the business through innovations in technology. You will partner with product and engineering leadership to break down epics into stories with clear acceptance criteria. And you’ll document, present, and influence technology solutions to various teams in the organization.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We’re looking for a lead platform engineer to help us build out and support Nike’s Kubernetes platform.

This is an IC leadership role which is critical to the success of the team. The ideal candidate is an experienced practitioner who is capable of both writing code themselves and accomplishing work through others.The candidate needs to be curious and rigorous in their approach to the craft of software engineering. And they must be experienced in developing and deploying distributed systems to the cloud in an enterprise environment.

Minimum qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience.

  • 2+ years operating Kubernetes-based solutions in production.

  • Experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems on public cloud computing platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and setting technical direction for engineering projects.

  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and layers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience developing Kubernetes controllers in Golang

  • Experience leveraging ArgoCD or similar tools to implement GitOps

  • Ability to create abstracted solutions that do not rely on any Cloud Service Provider

  • Able to navigate governance and compliance requirements of Global Platforms

  • Passionate about delighting enterprise customers and an understanding of enterprise workloads

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

In this role, you will lead the design and development of a Kubernetes-based foundational platform. You will do hands-on development, building custom controllers, Crossplane providers, and GitOps deployment of CNCF components. And you’ll provide technical coaching to less experienced engineers.

You will adopt, implement, and promote best-in-class design and architecture principles of security, observability, availability, and reliability. Contribute to ways of working, development standards, training, and hiring.
