The annual base salary for this position ranges from $138,400.00 in our lowest geographic market to $327,200.00 in our highest geographic market. Actual salary will vary based on a candidate's location, qualifications, skills and experience.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR 

We seek passionate engineers to join our team. As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for implementing end-to-end technical solutions in support of Nike’s Search & Discover platforms and services. You are a seasoned Engineering leader who can evangelize technical direction, mentor cross-functional technical teams, and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders. As a Principal Engineer, you will be expected to own organizational-level initiatives from conception to operationalization, demonstrating an understanding of the full software development lifecycle.  You will be expected to provide technical vision and guidance to your teammates; therefore, strong communication skills are critical in this role.

With teammates in different locations including Portland & San Francisco Bay Area, you’ll be joining the Search & Discover Platform team at Nike global organization working to solve product discovery challenges at scale.  You’ll be influencing the collaborative design and implementation of scalable applications that leverage prediction models and optimization programs to deliver data driven decisions that result in immense business impact.  You’ll also contribute to machine learning platforms and tools to enable Search & Browse personalization.  You thrive when surrounded by talented colleagues and aim to never stop learning.  WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH 

Search & Discover Platform is one of the key groups within Nike Digital Experiences organization. We assemble cross-disciplinary teams of engineers, ML specialists, and data scientists to develop scalable features for product discovery and personalization. We collaborate closely with our platform and architecture partners to build advanced capabilities on modern technologies, ensuring optimal performance and scalability 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Lead the design and development of technical solutions for the Search & Discover platform 

  • Establish and communicate a strategic vision for multiple systems and solution areas 

  • Actively participating in design, development and debugging activities, demonstrating deep understanding of engineering principles and practices 

  • Partner with Product Management, Data Science & Engineering leadership to establish an architectural runway for building Search & Discover platform solutions in consideration of the product roadmaps. 

  • Adopt and influence best in class design and architecture principles of security, scale, uptime and reliability 

  • Partner with business leaders to provide expert technical advice and influence strategic decision making 

  • Contribute to architecture guiding principles, development standards, training and hiring. 

  • Document, present and influence technology solutions to various teams in the organization 

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field 

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering developing full stack software solutions.  

  • 5+ years of Ecommerce experience. 

  • 5+ years of experience building on-site search platform using Solr/Elasticsearch. 

  • Experience in developing End to End technical Architecture of large-scale applications. 

  • Experience in caching & in-memory data grid solutions 

  • Excellent collaboration, listening, written and verbal communication skills with ability to facilitate technology strategy, requirements and architecture conversations with all partners (management, business users, and technology resources) 

  • Experience in microservices architecture, domain driven design, and RESTful API’s 

  • Hands-on experience working in a distributed/cloud-based environment (AWS preferred) with high transaction volumes 

  • Deep understanding of AI/ML frameworks and Solutions - familiarity with PyTorch/Keras , SageMaker, Hugging Face is required. 

  • Deep understanding of AI and semantic search technologies, with a focus on RAG, vector search, and NLP. 

  • Deep understanding of integrating with AI/ML solutions to personalize search experiences. 

  • Demonstrated track record of leading within sophisticated organizations requiring strong influence leadership skills 

  • Ability to work collaboratively at all levels in matrix environment
