Who we are looking for

We are looking for a Senior Cultural Researcher, Cultural and Societal Insights who has the demonstrable ability to lead, conduct, interpret, and present consumer and trends research which results in relevant insights to drive consumer knowledge and product creation. This person will drive Global research projects and must be experienced in personally completing a variety of qualitative methodologies as well as tracking signals and defining trends. This person needs to instill trust and effectively maintain the difficulty and credibility of the research. They must have a fascination with people and culture, with a curiosity about societal and cultural shifts and how this crafts consumers. They will be an effective verbal and written communicator who can present their findings in an un-biased and compelling manner.

What you will work on

Partnering with a diverse range of partners, you will drive research projects to identify important insights that can impact functions across the enterprise - stretching from design to innovation to product development to brand communications. You will explore and identify how evolving culture and emerging consumer trends translate into relevant product needs, outstanding messages and ownable brand communications to keep Nike growing and ahead of our consumers and competition.

You will explore brand new spaces for Nike – and bring them to life in visceral, insight-driven ways – that can inform the future of Nike.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Design Strategy, Journalism, Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Psychology, Marketing, Market Research, Research Methods, or equivalent years of experience, education or training
  • 3+ years of experience, plus relevant work experience in a design or product environment, working with trends and consumer insights.
  • Deep understanding of trend and insights research and methodologies.
  • Global experiences from the areas of fashion & design, technology, and culture and a willingness to travel.
  • Pan-disciplinary with a broad frame of reference.
  • Ever curious – fascinated with diverse cultures, societal shifts, and human behaviors.
  • Skilled at combining academic research and field observations and utilizing a variety of tools and sources to track emerging lifestyle shifts.
  • Demonstrable experience conducting qualitative interviews, expert interviews, focus groups and other forms of consumer and professional engagement.
  • Understanding emergent behaviors driven by cultural and societal shifts and the ability to delineate and communicate a range of possible futures and make them impactful for multiple Nike functions – from Product and Design to Brand and Innovation.
  • Knows where to find the Visionaries whose behavior and attitudes today can provide an indication of where societies are heading in the future.
  • Well connected with strong networks in design, youth culture, and sport.
  • Experience conducting and carrying out research globally, including in non-English marketplaces
  • Ability to remain independent and effectively present complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience
