Principal Researcher - NIKE Inc.- Beaverton, OR. Lead the research and apply human body knowledge to drive the development of Nike’s design and footwear products. Research the limitations of technology and how to apply its maximum capabilities while designing concept prototypes. Drive the devising methodologies of tools that model, analyze, and develop products. Partner with designers, developers, and innovation teams to apply advanced biomechanical concepts to sport specific footwear product. Demonstrated ability to find innovative solutions for future sport specific footwear products. Develop advanced product design configurations and individual components and the performance data associated with such developments. Research, develop, and apply advanced biomechanics principles, as well as develop scientific methods and theories in the solution of complex and advanced technical problems. Explore new technologies, scientific research, and methodological opportunities, trends, and vulnerabilities. Advocate for NSRL performance and protection research, and actively disseminate new ideas, insights, and concepts across multiple business groups, garnering support and consensus. Lead as an innovative scientist by exploring creative solutions to sport performance or injury prevention. Communicate scientific information, methods, and findings clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical teams, partners, and Senior Management. Lead projects and programs with significant risk and complexity to achieve milestones and objectives and will develop the strategy for project execution. Manage budgets for large-scale projects and significant programs. Lead the Research and Development (R&D) department to focus on products from conception to retail to meet the account and consumer needs. Telecommuting is available from anywhere in the U.S., except from AK, AL, AR, DE, HI, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MT, ND, NE, NH, NM, NV, OH, OK, RI, SD, VT, WV, and WY. 

Must have a Master’s degree in Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Kinesiology and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a research-related occupation.

Experience must include: 

  • Biomechanical processes including: 3D Inverse dynamics calculations, 3D joint kinematic calculations 

  • Statistical processes including: Statistical modeling, Statistical parametric mapping 

  • Biomechanics Equipment including: Motion analysis systems (Vicon motion capture), force plate hardware and software (Kistler, AMTI), underfoot pressure measuring devices (Novel pressure system, Moticon pressure system), force and pressure instrumented treadmills, electromyography tools, and inertial measurement units 

  • Footwear and surface traction testing systems 

  • Data Analysis Software including: Visual 3D, Nexus, Python, Matlab 

  • Performance Footwear functional design
