WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

The role is part of the Foundational Platform Engineering (FPE) organization,
responsible for building, scaling, and optimizing platform infrastructure that powers critical business applications. The role will work closely with platform engineers, where we drive innovation to enable growth and build the essential tools that power Nike’s success.
 

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an ambitious Principal Software Engineer who is well versed with Infrastructure as code, system design and Kubernetes with a high learning curve to pick up new technologies. You thrive in a collaborative environment, are excited by cutting-edge technology, and excel at problem-solving. You should be an excellent communicator, able to explain technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and operate with urgency and integrity. You will play a key role in building scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure that powers our products and engineering teams. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. You will act as a technical owner and lead multiple projects across the organization.

  • 10+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or related fields.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.

  • Ability to run multiple projects for the organization and connect the dots.

  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration.

  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (e.g., EKS, IAM, S3,

  • Lambda).

  • Proficiency with Crossplane, Helm, and GitOps workflows.

  • Understanding of service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).

  • Programming proficiency in Golang, with working knowledge of Python, Java, or similar languages.

  • Solid grasp of CI/CD practices, GitHub workflows, and modern release engineering.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in cross-funtional teams.

  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of projects showing technical ownership.

  • Certifications in AWS or CKA will be added advantage.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

You will be responsible for designing and operating platform solutions, contributing to CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust features.

  • Define and evolve platform architecture to support multi-tenant, scalable, and secure workloads.

  • Lead the design and implementation of Kubernetes-based infrastructure integrated with AWS services.

  • Architect and implement service meshes for secure, observable, and resilient communication.

  • Champion GitOps practices for infrastructure and application delivery.

  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Build and manage infrastructure using Kubernetes, Crossplane, Helm, and AWS.

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar tools.

  • Develop platform tooling and automation using Go, Python, or other relevant languages.

  • Collaborate closely with security, reliability, and product teams to ensure platform robustness.
