WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
We’re looking for a Senior Computational Engineer to join the Performance Engineering Lab, reporting to the Computational Engineering Director. The Performance Engineering Lab, within the Advanced Digital Creation Studio, is focused on exploring new concepts for Nike products, such as footwear or apparel, and bringing understanding of the product function using predictive engineering tools.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This role is a blend of highly technical mechanical engineering and creative problem solving. A candidate for this role needs to have the strong engineering skills listed below and be eager to work with individuals from many different backgrounds.
This engineer will work with innovation project teams to diagnose and understand technical problems and use appropriate engineering tools (including Finite Element Analysis, or FEA) to provide insights to inform decision-making, explore risk, and confirm product performance. The right candidate will be a creative, analytical engineer with FEA and scripting experience who takes an entrepreneurial approach to helping teams understand and scope their work. They will also connect computational workflows to streamline the innovation process while applying a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, experience or training
- A minimum of 3 years directly relevant work experience
- Experience using engineering tools to explore, inform, and recommend engineering solutions
- Experience with navigating cross-functional teams and communicating with necessary stakeholders across the organization
- Proven ability to communicate and present technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Additional experience that is nice to have:
- Industry experience with FEA tools and methods specifically with non-linear materials and deformation
- Experience with programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#, MATLAB, etc.)
- Experience working within a Unix environment
- Strong understanding of Mechanics of Materials, including non-linear materials and deformation
WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON
If this is you, you’ll be working with several different cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and many other experts to understand their technical challenges and help identify the right analytical tools and simulations approaches to inform a solution. Your role is to provide teams guidance on how and when to apply FEA, other computational engineering tools, and workflow improvements to make recommendations. The projects you work on may last from a few months to a few years. As part of a team, you will have the opportunity to communicate and interpret highly technical information to a diverse audience, whether within or outside of the project team.
You may often be the only engineering expert on a team, so you will provide not only simulation results, but also contribute engineering advice on many of the following:
- Alternate material selection
- Design options
- Test method considerations
- Failure implications
- Design solutions
A day-in-the-life of this role would have you dividing your time between project meetings, consulting with other teammates in small groups, and doing the hands-on computer work to contribute to your projects.
We offer a number of accommodations to complete our interview process including screen readers, sign language interpreters, accessible and single location for in-person interviews, closed captioning, and other reasonable modifications as needed. If you discover, as you navigate our application process, that you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, please complete the Candidate Accommodation Request Form.
