WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As the Temporary LatAm Corporate Senior Accountant, you’ll be part of a high-performing team that is driving Nike’s international business growth through the APLA Geography (temporary contract by 6 months ). While mastering and executing the fundamentals will be critical, your ability to operate in a very dynamic environment, work effectively and build trust with a variety of internal stakeholders will also be crucial. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the timely and accurate month-end close and drives continuous improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of the team’s accounting and financial reporting processes. This will also involve working closely with our Managed Service Provider for accounting transactions. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, highly organized and able to drive collaborative relationships with cross-functional business partners.

You will develop high profile, influential and collaborative relationships across teams, functions and layers of the business while demonstrating mastery of US GAAP, particularly around Corporate Accounting, Tax and Treasury.

In this role you will report to the LatAm Corporate Accounting Manager, based in Mexico City, Mexico.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

  • Apply APLA Controlling guidance regarding corporate accounting related policies

  • Capture and deliver measurable value through business partnership, including performing technical research on accounting issues and consulting with business partners on key topics

  • Support on designing and implementing effective controls to manage financial reporting risk across the LatAm corporate accounting processes

  • Provide timely accounting positions, financial insights and operational considerations to enable informed decision making

  • Monitor standardized, scalable and controlled accounting processes and transactions aligned with global policies

  • Perform the monthly and quarterly financial statement close process according to US GAAP

  • Drive operational excellence through the identification and operationalization of simplification, standardization, and automation opportunities

  • Manage local statutory filings and audits, and collaborate with internal and external auditors and tax advisors on tax related work.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

Reporting during 6 months to the LatAm Corporate Accounting Manager, this role is a critical finance partner for the NIKE LatAm territories (Mexico as owned and operated, and Central & South America as distributor model) and APLA Corporate Accounting.  You will have interactions with various LatAm stakeholders, working closely with the LatAm Financial Planning and Record to Report Shared Delivery teams.   

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, finance or related functions & Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or the equivalent, is preferred

  • Knowledge and application of US GAAP around inventory accounting is required 

  • Experience with ERP accounting and finance systems such as SAP or Oracle is required

  • Experience with a Fortune 500/multinational consumer products company is preferred

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish is preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills & a proven ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience, including meeting facilitation and presentations with senior leadership teams

  • High standards for quality and advanced ability to handle multiple, competing priorities and requests

  • Experience working with a managed service provider is a plus

  • Ability to pass a 7-year background check
