WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

This role will lead a team comprised of tooling engineers and tooling programmers to drive Air MI’s tooling engineering into the future, creating strategy, best practices for design, and the adoption of digital design and simulation capabilities. They will report to the Director, Product Development Engineering, Tooling. The role will collaborate closely with Design Engineering, a 24/7 Machine Shop, IT, Product Engineers, Quality Engineers, Materials Product Engineering, and Production partners. The role will also collaborate across Nike in various organizations including with Future Cushioning Systems and the Bowerman Footwear Lab.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Product Development Engineering, Tooling Engineering to join Air Manufacturing Innovation. This role will be instrumental in driving the long-term vision for tooling innovation while ensuring excellence in current-state execution. This role is a key member of the team that delivers AIR by elevating, evolving, and driving tooling and design best practices and standards and driving the adoption of digital design capabilities. They will prioritize and be creative in a constrained environment, engage with a diverse group of stakeholders, and clear obstacles for their team. The right person for this role will bring expertise in at least one of Tooling, CAD to CAM, Lean Manufacturing, Machining, Additive Manufacturing, and/or Material Science Engineering and will create and propose the tooling engineering strategy informed by the state of art in industry adapting to business constraints.  The candidate should possess a can-do mentality and a hands-on approach to problem solving.  Additional key attributes include strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, experience working in a machining, tooling and manufacturing setting, and experience improving efficiencies in processes and teams. The candidate should be adaptable, solutions-oriented, inclusive, and respectful.

  • At least 8 years engineering experience (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials, Chemical)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Material or Chemical engineering. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience or training
  • Experience leading a team and creating, driving and communicating a strategy
  • Experience in Tooling, Tooling Design, and background in low volume high mix machining
  • Experience in Additive Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX and Teamcenter applications a plus
  • Knowledge of Thermoforming of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes, RF Welding, and Part Trimming
  • Proven ability to work with associates of all levels including people leaders, experts, engineers, technicians, and supervisors.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

You will lead and inspire a passionate Tooling Engineering team responsible to drive tooling design for machining and programming, program CNC milling machines in the machine shop to fabricate production and prototype tooling, molds, die fixtures, and machined parts to support our manufacturing facility, troubleshoot equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes, and support innovation projects. You get to create and improve our tooling operational excellence, lead the delivery of predictive assessments of tooling designs, evolve our tooling methods and processes, and drive new design automation creation and implementation.

  • You will deliver Siemens NX and SolidWorks upgrades (CAD/CAM software)
