WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

The Digital Design Studio is a specialized head-to toe capabilities studio positioned within CPBM at Nike WHQ in Beaverton, OR. We are made up of 3D Designers, Immersive, 3D Apparel and Virtual Material Designers focused through cross functional collaborations to digitally craft products and experiences, creating digital story telling at scale. The Virtual Materials Design Team co create new materials, visualizations, workflows, and innovations that drive better and more

accurate product creation from concept to product visualization.

This role reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Virtual Materials Design.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an exceptional (Level 35) Sr. Virtual Material Designer to combine their 3D material authoring, lighting and rendering experience, with problem-solving abilities, and creativity to help create the future of Nike Footwear Materials. Core aspects of Nike’s digital evolution hinge on the ability of the Virtual Material Design team to leverage digital tools and team collaborations expanding ideation, accelerating early concepting and amplifying design intent for new Nike materials and products! The ideal teammate will be a highly creative problem solver, comfortable working collaboratively, is naturally curious and excited to thrive as part of a strong, high-functioning team to deliver design and business results through understanding the value of sharing information and by constantly learning from those around you to build skills.

  • BA/BFA/MA Preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related 3D field or 2+ years of experience working with 3D digital workflow teams at Nike.
  • Highly proficient in 3D material authoring in DCC tool of choice, (Substance Designer preferred).
  • Highly proficient at look development and rendering, (Maya/Vray preferred).
  • Familiarity in creating parametric materials using Substance Designer.
  • Familiarity with real-time and path-tracing render engines.
  • Extensive portfolio demonstrating the ability to create and present high quality 3D assets, must include examples of substance designer node graphs, material close ups and product renders.
  • Collaborate on project teams Cross-Engine to achieve milestones and objectives.
  • Catalyst to make connections with other Design groups. Collaborator with skill in connecting the dots

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

Is that you? If so, you will work on a variety of projects, initiatives and product creation moments across segments of Nike sports and lifestyle. You will create and present assets that effectively communicate design intent to a variety of audiences. Additionally, you will provide technical expertise and process support to Design, Development, Engineering, and Innovation teams. You will provide support for Design staff as needed to execute seasonal and product creation deliverables. Your goal is to aim for product excellence by partnering with key stakeholders cross-functionally on the product creations process, and help bring the vision for the future of Nike!

  • Work with the team to develop and maintain technical standards and best practices for 3D Material creation
  • Provide feedback to the team while working fast and iteratively on design assets.
  • Follow the concept design process and refer to Virtual Material Standards to ensure work is delivered properly.
  • Work will focus on current priority initiatives for inline work but can span across multiple partners concurrently. Work independently and make informed decisions.
  • You will continuously improve skills and stay current with new technologies and techniques in the 3D industry.
