Who you’ll work with:
Our team supports the Nike Sports Research Lab by implementing innovative athlete* facing experiences. Teamwork, open, and honest communication matter. Teammates spend much of their time mentoring, guiding, and supporting each other to promote the best understanding of our desired outcomes. Most of our code is written for NodeJS and built into Docker, hosted on a variety of operating systems. We create solutions using our own code, 3rd party software, AI models, and consumer web-services on top of physical athlete experiences.
Who we are looking for:
You are just getting started in your career as a software engineer and the sky is the limit! You’ve learned some theory and the basics, and have worked on a few smaller projects maybe alone or with small groups. You have a small comfort zone where you can accomplish basic tasks such as simple user interfaces and web services, but are thirsty to dig into more complex architectures. You aren’t really sure what it means to “deliver value” yet, however you want to have a real impact on people’s lives through your work.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should:
- Have strong technical and non-technical communications skills.
- Be able to leverage a basic set of experiences when considering solutions.
- Be developing instincts regarding the consequences of complexity.
- Be learning to design, build, and consume reliable, secure, synchronous, and asynchronous web services for front end utilization.
- Have some experience web ui utilizing modular and reactive ui frameworks.
- Be able to contribute to architectural design discussions through constructive questions to more senior team mates.
- Have a learner’s mindset.
- Anchor your design and engineering practices on the foundations of devops.
- Expect that you are responsible for testing and asserting the quality of your own work in an automated and repeatable fashion.
- Understand, practice, evolve, and promote agile development methodologies.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience and training.

What you’ll work on:
The team’s mission is to provide technology centered experiences which enable Nike’s Innovation and Sports Science organizations to engage with a consumer at a scale that they never could in the past. Working within the LeBron James Innovation Center which houses the Nike Sports Research Lab, the engineering team collaborates with innovation leaders, designers, data scientists, and researchers to bring our work outside the lab gaining access to a much larger and more diverse set of participants so that we can gain better insights into the future of Nike’s products.
Our flagship product is FORM - an experience where an athlete* runs on a treadmill for a short time and we provide immediate and valuable feedback regarding the geometry of their body in motion so that they can have a better run. We do this by arranging 6 cameras (iPhones) around the treadmill, capturing synchronized video, and processing through several stages of machine learning algorithms to produce an easily digestible and explainable report.
To accomplish this successfully, we expect you to:
Help evolve our engineering environment over time.
Provide mentoring for more junior engineers to help them grow their skills.
Review peers’ technical designs, code, and tests, giving supportive feedback and asking good questions.
Leverage your knowledge to design full-stack applications for quality, security, reliability, availability, maintainability,
and performance.
Practice DevOps to ensure a culture of testing and releasing software continuously using automation and monitoring.
