Blue Ribbon Studio (BRS) is the center for engagement and development for Nike’s Design community. BRS operates as a world class physical maker space and education resource dedicated to advancing the creative potential of Nike Design. The Studio Specialist would be an integral player on the Studio’s creative team, reporting to the BRS Senior Studio Manager. They will work alongside over 700 Nike Designers, across Design disciplines including Footwear, Apparel, Accessories, Color, Materials, Graphics, Innovation, Digital, Retail and Brand, to enable and facilitate the design process. BRS encourages expanding knowledge, mastering new techniques, embracing mistakes, pursuing passion projects, and trying something new. For Design, by design, we are ever-evolving.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a Studio Specialist II to join our team! The Studio Specialist II should have an insatiable curiosity to push and elevate Design through craft and methods of make. They have a well rounded foundation across many methods of make, organized, service driven, and creatively fueled. They should be energized through sharing and teaching these techniques to others. They support the Studio experience by fostering a welcoming and engaging environment, meeting Designers where they are at, and embracing learning through exploration. The Studio Specialist thrives while juggling multiple tasks at once, quick problem solving, and obsessing the technical and creative details of a project. They are unafraid to confront unexplored creative territories, and partner with Designers to jump over technical hurdles to achieve the creative unlocks. They should have a deep understanding for the Design and concept creation process. They are constantly curious by supporting the research and development of new methods of make, and are on the front lines of elevating future Studio equipment and capabilities. The Studio Specialist would help influence, empower and uplift the Nike Design community through on the ground workshop preparation and support, entry level class and skill teaching, and supporting the Studio floor by answering drop in questions, providing quick technical support and troubleshooting, ensuring safe engagement with equipment, and general studio stewardship in a hospitality-driven creative environment.

  • This is an in-person role.
  • Please submit a creative portfolio demonstrating range of design and hands on application skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fashion, Marketing, Visual Merchandising, Design or related field. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, and training
  • 1-4+ years directly relevant work experience.
  • Entry to intermediate experience with operating and teaching across all studio capabilities 3D, Color, Materials, Graphics, Apparel, Footwear, Product, Digital Design tools and processes
    • Tools include: 3D printers (FDM/Resin), CNC, sewing (apparel & footwear / patterning & construction), CLO 3D, laser cutting, vacuum former, ceramics, molding + casting, screen printing, risograph, dye sublimation, natural dyeing, indigo, shibori, synthetic dyeing, textiles/weaving, biomaterials, vinyl, wide-format plotter, digital and hand embroidery, air brush, painting, book binding etc)
  • Proficient with design softwares (Adobe suite)
  • Self starter with excellent organization, communication, and time management skills
  • Front facing client, or service experience, a plus
  • Teaching, workshop, or curriculum development, a plus
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, work on feet in a dynamic, multisensory environment

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

As the Studio Generalist you will work in a fast paced, creative and dynamic studio environment where no day is the same. You are an excellent communicator and team player, but can be self directed in upholding studio stewardship and organization, and anticipate Designer needs with ease. You’ll have the opportunity to forge deep relationships with Designers, and other innovation spaces at Nike and beyond.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Support the Studio floor by fulfilling on-duty shifts, supporting by teaching basic techniques and safe equipment usage across all studio processes.
  • Supporting the studio team on special projects, support development of in-studio reference samples and equipment guides.
  • Uphold studio stewardship by maintaining a well organized and tidy studio environment.
  • Work 1:1 with Designers and Design teams from varying disciplines and skill sets to support concept development and equipment engagement
  • Support hands on co-creation sessions with teams, signature athletes and collaborators.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with Nike Design and creative communities across the world to research and advance Studio capabilities, and partner on activations.
  • Support classes, workshops, and activations- ranging from technical skills based classes to hands on creative exploratory sessions.
  • Communicate any supply / material needs, or technical maintenance needs with the Lead Technician, and provide input on new studio capabilities.
  • Uphold and demonstrate safe equipment and studio usage by adhering to environmental, health, and safety protocol and maintaining an organized studio environment.
