WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

We are looking for a Virtual Material Production Artist to be a part of the virtual material studio at Nike to create, capture, and visualize Nike's footwear, apparel, and accessories materials for use in 3D software tools such as CLO3D, Browzwear, Substance Painter, Blender, and Unreal Engine. This candidate will combine their experience, problem solving abilities, organizational skills, and creativity to create assets that supports product visualization.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate needs to be a highly organized and creative problem solver who works well individually and in a team environment. This person is also proactive, has excellent communication skills, has an eye for detail and can quickly adapt to new technologies. Candidates will have a background in 3D textile visualization, including experience in production art, photo retouching, and 3D modelling.

This is a technical production role. We use a wide range of software and hardware tools including Adobe Substance Suite, Unreal Engine, Blender, Browzwear and CLO3D software packages and industry standard 3D material scanners. This individual is passionate about virtual materials and enabling Nike's product creation teams in the 3D prototyping space.

  • Bachelor’s degree in design/art, 3D art, game design, or related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • 3+ years of experience in either the game or VFX as a 3D artist, or 2+ years of experience working with 3D digital workflow teams at Nike.
  • Professional level proficiency using 3D material scanning equipment.
  • Professional level proficiency in Adobe’s Substance Suite.
  • Professional level proficiency in standard 3D apparel design software such as Browzwear and CLO3D. Proficient in standard 3D design software such as Maya, Modo, Blender, and 3DS Max.
  • Proficient with PBR-based material standards.
  • Proficient understanding of color and lighting.
  • Proficient look development and rendering skills.
  • Familiarity in creating parametric materials using Substance Designer.
  • Familiarity with real time and path-tracing render engines and shader models.
  • Experience with the apparel and footwear product creation process is a plus.
  • Portfolio demonstrating ability to create and render high quality photoreal 3D materials.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and self-sufficient.

WHAT YOU’LL WORK ON

If this is you, you’ll be working in Nike's product space, where you will be part of a larger 3D visualization studio including modeling, compositing, and immersive teams. Responsibilities include scanning, creating, and testing Nike footwear, apparel, and accessories materials, 3D product visualization, and supporting the delivery of 3D assets across Nike's internal and external teams.

Deliver 3D Material Assets

  • Daily scanning of physical samples including both the visual characteristics (texture, color) and physical properties (weight, drape, stretch).
  • Create component and trim 3D assets from physical samples and design intent schematics.
  • Adjust and modify 3D material assets for specific 3D software packages.

Digital Prototyping

  • Support of 3D material design and concept projects with known construction methods.
  • Follows clear direction and standards to ensure prototype accuracy.
  • Materialize product models to enable seasonal digital product sampling.
  • Reviews product renders to ensure the look and feel of digital product images meet standards.

Communication

  • Explain project information clearly and build relationships.
  • For more complex partner questions, direct them to the appropriate team member.

Mentorship and Learning

  • Continuously improves skills and stays current with studio standards and 3D industry technologies.
